Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is a community-driven program. The program creates a pathway to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who want to settle in the country and participate in the community. The aim of this program is to benefit smaller communities by the means of economic immigration. Applying for permanent residence under this pilot is a 4 step process.

  • You need to check if you meet both the IRCC eligibility requirements and the Community-specific requirements.
  • Find an eligible job. Your employer should be from one of the participating communities.
  • Once you have a job offer, submit your application for recommendation to the community.
  • Apply for permanent residence once a community recommends you.

Each community has its own eligibility requirements, job search process and application process. Due to the pandemic, you are now exempt from accumulating work experience over a continuous period.

  • A job-offer (full-time, non-seasonal) from a Canadian employer in one of the eligible industries and occupations (outside of Quebec)
