Alberta Opportunity Stream

There are several streams within the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, which is a Provincial Nominee Program run by the province of Alberta.

As of June 2018, the Alberta Opportunity Stream was launched to target foreign nationals who already work in Alberta and have a firm offer of employment from an employer in Alberta to continue working full time. In order to qualify for this stream, candidates must meet a range of eligibility requirements related to education, work experience, and job offers.

Alberta Express Entry Stream

Since June 2018, Alberta has had its own Express Entry stream which allows the province to offer provincial nominations to candidates with active profiles in the federal system. Although the exact selection criteria are not known to the general population, AAIP reports that the province will consider profiles in the federal Express Entry pool, as well as those who show an interest in regional economic development and diversification.

A candidate who receives a provincial nomination will experience a 600-point increase in their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which ensures that they will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in the following draw.

Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway

An Accelerated Tech Pathway allows Express Entry candidates in a tech industry or in a tech position with an Albertan job offer to apply for nomination with expedited processing.

Candidates can only apply for the Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway if the Alberta Express Entry program qualifies for them, and if they are employed in one of the 38 technical occupations identified as in-demand by the AAIP or have a job offer from an Alberta employer.

AAIP Farm Stream

Designed to target foreign nationals who have vast insight and experience into owning and operating farms and have the resources and capacity to launch and manage a new farm are invited to apply.

Applicants who are foreign nationals with extensive experience owning and operating farms and who have the financial resources needed to start a new farming operation in Alberta will be considered for the Alberta Farm Stream.

Graduate Entrepreneur

Alberta operates the Graduate Entrepreneur stream as part of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, also known as the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Graduate entrepreneurs who have attended post-secondary institutions in Alberta can apply for permanent residency under this stream.

In this stream, candidates are ranked based on points. The highest-ranking points will be invited to submit their detailed Business Applications. Successful applicants will be given a nomination by the province for permanent residency.
