Canada's Federal Skilled Worker program (FSW) is one of the three programs included within the Express Entry system for processing applications for permanent residence. Because most programs are highly competitive, the FSW program uses the Comprehensive Ranking System to rank candidates.

What is the FSW program and how does it work?

Canada's Federal Skilled Worker program (FSW) is one of the three programs included within the Express Entry system for processing applications for permanent residence. Because most programs are highly competitive, the FSW program uses the Comprehensive Ranking System to rank candidates.

The applicant does not require Canadian work experience to enter the entry pool, making the FSW program one of the most sought after. The FSW program works on a scoring system; candidates that are applying need to meet a minimum points requirement based on various factors including work experience, language ability and education. After the candidate enters into the pool, the applicant with the most competitive CRS score receives an invitation to apply.

What are the eligibility requirements for the FSW program?

A candidate needs to meet the following requirements:

  • The candidate must have completed at least 12 months of continuous full-time skilled work in the last 10 years SKilled work experience has been categorised under the NOC Skill levels.
  • Language proficiency for either English or French at a minimum level
  • Any degree equivalent to Canadian high school
  • Funds to support spouse and children
  • Intention to live outside of the province of Quebec

How do I calculate my CRS score?

Once the candidate completes and submits an express entry profile, all the applicants are ranked against one another with the help of the CRS score. Because this is a comprehensive test we would recommend you to use our test to check your current CRS score. Find your CRS score here

How long does it take for the application to be processed?

Once submitted, the profile a candidate has created for the FSW Express Entry remains valid for 12 months. As an applicant, if you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), there is a time limit of 60 days to submit all your documents electronically, also known as eAPR.

Is a job offer a requirement for the application?

The most important requirement is that the applicant has skilled work experience in one of the following groups listened by the National Occupational Classification
